Emory's the real deal..great singer, his range and chops remind me of Lowell; writes soulful, funky and beautifully crafted songs. Labor and Spirits is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time..great playing, righteous, unslick production and a lot of sass and heart. I love this guy....
-- Bonnie Raitt
"Emorys great. I love listening to his music."
-- Randy Newman
"Many of us can dream of owning a voice that can echo the high lonesome
cries of Bill Monroe and Rick Danko, the sweet country soul of Gram Parsons
and Don Henly, the rock and roll grunt of Lowell George and Richard Manuel.
Emory J. has one of these voices and behind it lies the deepest knowledge
and respect for all that is Americana music.
His songs bring Randy Newman and Guy Clark's craft to the everyman
sensibilities of A.P. Carter, Jimmie Rodgers, and Big Bill Broonzy. Helping
make this album was an immense joy."

"I listen to alot of music and receive alot of cds from artists. Emory's music absolutely captured my ear on the first listen. Not only good playing by everyone involved but, great writing. I can tell his songs are the truth."
-- Lloyd Maines, Producer: Dixie Chicks, Joe Ely, Wayne Hancock
"Labor and Spirits doesnıt aspire to be a ground breaking record, but it delivers you to the ground tended by Jesse Winchester, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, or, for that matter, Buddy Miller a fine, fun place to be."
-- Barry Mazor - No Depression Magazine
"That's a great sounding CD. Intimidating in fact! "
-- Paul Hornsby, Producer: Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie
"Georgeously good-timey. Kinda backporch Randy Newman with an array of licks and fills atht constantly surprise and delight..."
-- Fred Dellar (4 Stars - Mojo Magazine)
"Labor & Spirits is a breath of fresh air in an often polluted industry, and an album you will find yourself playing time and time again. Fix yourself a bowl of black beans with red hot chilies, pour up an adult beverage, and crank up the stereo to eleven. Oh, and donıt forget to set the changer to repeat."
-- Michael Buffalo Smith Gritz Magazine
"The loose, inventive melodies and sing-along verses will make you want to dance a little jig and probably laugh out loud... Joseph might call Berkeley home, but his songs have the imagery of the deep, steamy South"
-- Performing Songwriter Magazine
"I donıt know whatıs more amazing: how good Emory Josephıs Labor & Spirits is or the fact that itıs his debut."
-- Tony Peyser, Santa Monica Mirror
"A refreshing chunk of handmade Southern soul." --
Joel Selvin S.F. Chronicle
"Labor & Spirits is a container, a lunch box filled with sounds that cross America..."
Carlo Lancini - Roothighway.it
"That an artist can pop up - seemingly out of nowhere -and arrive as
fully-formed and self possessed as Emory Joseph has is mind boggling." --
Jim Mussa - Iowa City press Citizen
"...an ideal blend of spirit and spunk." --
Lee Zimmerman, Goldmine Magazine
"This will be one of those discs that stay in my "frequent listening" stack and remain there for a long time to come. Mr. Joseph will have to dig deep on his next project to better this, because this CD is "one in a million"
-- misslana.com
"These celebrity guests may have opened doors with press and radio, but the
album is dominated by Joseph's unique musical voice." --
Steve Pick, St. Louis Riverfront Times
"A joyous bar-room hymn to the South, essentially." -
-- WYCE, Grand Rapids MI

-- Mardi Roddenberry, Arnoldsville, Georgia
"Labor and Spirits distills the spirit and sound of everything that has historically resonated from organic, roots based rock and roll.
With their performances, the amazing cast Emory assembled to do this album completely celebrated both his songs and the history of the genre as a whole."
